  3. I statred listening to Rahsaan Roland Kirk in my teens. That was a long time ago. I own many of his recordings, on LP and CD. I even saw him live at Carnagie Hall. He was a genius and studied his contemporaries and incorporated their music into his arrangements flawlessly. He also pays tribute to the great John Coltrane as no one else could/5(10).

  5. Four notes from the piano intros the horns in unison (3 sets of five notes). Kirk's tenor (front solo) is well up for it. Good solos by all, as well. The piano, along with Kirk's siren opens and closes "Jack The Ripper", a "catchy tune", but complicated for one horn, much less three. But that's Roland Kirk/5(10).
